Welcome to St Luke's
St Luke’s Roseville is a
friendly
welcoming church. We like to think of ourselves as a family –
and
that we are “building a family for Jesus.”
Roseville Presbyterian
Church is home
to a Christian community who seek to serve Jesus Christ as Lord in our
daily lives. We strive to be Christ centred, Bible believing and gospel
focused. We are young and old, from all walks of life, and welcome any
visitors, aiming to be a supportive and encouraging Christian family to
all those who come to us.
We have most of the usual
activities
you might associate with a Christian Church. We
have
Worship Services, a Sunday School, a new after-school Kid’s Club
commencing, the Refuel youth group, men’s group, fellowship activities
and studies. Our Minister Graham Spence, Youth Minister
Daniel
Perrott and our Elders are very approachable, and desire to bring the
whole counsel of God to you and the community.
You can learn something of
our history,
denominational affiliation, beliefs and practices on other pages.
At Roseville we are
traditional in some
ways and contemporary in others and that is one of our
strengths. We can be described as Reformed
Evangelical –
that is we believe the Bible to be the Word
of God and relevant to our
lives. We are desirous of growing in our faith
together. We have a great concern to share the good
news
that Jesus is Lord and that life, salvation, acceptance, a relationship
with God and a promised home in heaven is found through trusting and
following Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Our beliefs can be
described
generally in terms of the historic creeds, and more specifically in the
way our denomination understands the Westminster Confess of Faith which
is often described as ‘Calvinistic’ or ‘Reformed.’
Daniel Perrott joined the
team in early
2007 as Youth Minister. Both Graham and Dan are
working to
develop a strong Bible based and a Gospel preaching ministry reaching
out to the community.
We welcome all to share
with us in our
Worship Services and other activities.
You can contact us first
by phone or
email, or just come along. Either way you are very
welcome.
Our aim is
to love God and to love
His own
to Know Christ and to make Him Known
This encompasses the
Biblical emphasis
to
- Worship
- Pastoral care
- Christian Education
- Evangelism
INTRODUCTION
We are part of Christ's
wider universal
Church throughout the world.
We are constitutionally
part of the
Presbyterian Church of Australia and linked with the historical work of
the Holy Spirit in the reformation of the Church of Scotland in the
sixteenth century led by John Knox, the founder of Presbyterianism. In
Australia we can trace our beginnings to the banks of the Hawkesbury
River near Sydney in 1803.
The Supreme Standard of
the Church is
the Word of God contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New
Testaments. The Subordinate Standard of the Church is the Westminster
Confession of Faith read in light of the Declaratory Statement.
The word "Presbyterian"
refers to the
manner in which the Church organises itself. The Australian Macquarie
Dictionary defines the term; "Church government by presbyters, or
elders who are equal in rank, consisting of ministers (teaching elders)
and layman (ruling elders)." Congregations are under the jurisdiction
of a Presbytery to which they belong in their district.
We proclaim the Gospel of
God and serve
the community through local Church Congregations and Home Mission
Stations, Evangelism, Theological and Christian Education, Schools,
Nursing Homes, Hostels and other Aged Care Ministries, Youth Work,
Child and Family Services, Counselling, University Work, Presbyterian
Women's Association, Chaplains, and other specific ministries.
The
Presbyterian Church of
Australia is a part of the Christian Church throughout the world. The
Church’s name comes from the Greek word presbuteros, which is the word
for an elder or a mature Christian leader in the New Testament. The use
of the name Presbyterian reflects the Church’s aim to be faithful to
the Bible’s teaching on the Church, even in the 21st Century. In its
wider use, the name Presbyterian has also come to include the
distinctive doctrine, discipline, worship, laws and practice of the
churches which returned to Biblical standards in Europe at the time
known as the Reformation.
